Explore Dream Discover

three years ago, sitting at my desk in microsoft’s red west campus, i asked myself what i wanted to be. the answer was exciting, scary and wholly intimidating. so much so i would nervously tell friends the plan to leave my software career.

it hasn’t been easy. it’s been quite rocky actually. but i don’t regret the decision for one second. i am a true believer in making yourself the person you want to be every day. you are what you repeatedly do. you are not your job. you are not your car. you are not your house. you are not your bank account. it is what you do from dusk til dawn that defines you.

it’s a new year. time to recreate yourself. time to make yourself exactly what you have always wanted to be. it won’t be easy. you will likely have to move outside of your comfort zone to achieve this new you. you have to be willing to do what most people aren’t. for me, at least in my mind, that helps set me apart from the masses. i strive during periods of great discomfort.

twain sums up my point well…

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
